Outreach

Astronomy is a wonderful science field to communicate with the general public. I have been involved in several outreach activities and still are. Below you can find an overview of my outreach projects.

We combined observations from three different arrays of radio interferometers: the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT), the Global mm VLBI array (GMVA), and the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) to catch the emission from the innermost center in the active galaxy NGC 1052. This is the region where a double sided jet is forming and accelerating up to velocities of half the light speed. To learn more about our most recent results check out our press release: Event Horizon Telescope moving towards a close up of a black hole and its jets.

Einstein online: "The center of the AGN in M 87."

As a member of the Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration, I was one of over 300 people who played a part in securing the first image of the shadow of a black hole. More about this part of my work is available on Einstein Online, where I co-wrote an article about our findings with Anton Zensus and Denise Müller-Dum: https://www.einstein-online.info/en/spotlight/eht.

I am featured on the Lindau Blog in an article by Benjamin Skuse, for which I shared my thoughts and roles in capturing the image of the shadow of the black hole in our Milky Way: https://www.lindau-nobel.org/blog-picturing-the-heart-of-our-galaxy
